Cross Rail Contractor - Hanover Square
With a complex retained facade, comprising a terrace of buildings, which hosted a variety of materials from Portland Stone to Faience and Stucco, which is listed, requiring detailed inspection and material analysis, we were perfectly placed to define the specification to the client and identify the need for remedial corrosion treatment to the steel frame.
Interesting to advise that it can be better to create an accurate reality model of a facade and then clean it prior to numbering and labelling each component and carefully dismantling before placing into storage. This avoids the cost and risk of trying to protect the retained facade whilst all the groundworks and piling are taking place, causing potential damage to the fabric and incurring unexpected cost to make good. Elsewhere we were involved in scoping the package for a Grade 2* building dating back to the 1720’s and provided extensive advice for another Crossrail site where they have a portfolio of listed buildings which are yet to undergo restoration.
