The security cleared team of expert drone operators use commercial survey drones in London and Nationwide fitted with high-resolution broadcast quality camera and fixed focal length lenses. The survey is completed quickly compared to an access survey and the data is rendered over a couple of days to produce the model.
Using the most advanced technology and supported by an expert team, we survey using photogrammetry and laser to produce a reality model and the information is converted to PDF to produce what is termed an Orthophoto. We can where needed integrate to CAD.
The Orthophoto is enabled to allow the survey to be annotated and provides accurate measurements and verifiable quantities. Assumptions or provisional sums are eliminated with the accurate measures and HD images of every feature in 3D. The specification is tighter, the pricing more accurate and the control processes to manage the project reduces risk.
Survey costs includes a scan at the outset of the project and once the project is completed so that a high-resolution model of the building is created to use as a benchmark in future years and then plan future maintenance work. Rocksolid have developed a leading edge workflow that we are happy to demonstrate.
Over time, our surveys allow accurate differential correlation to show dilapidation and issues developing from a millimetre wide crack to face loss, spalling and % of joint loss, delamination and more. A unique feature is updating the model for valuation purposes thereby verifying all the incoming valuations as it takes seconds to put a measure on the areas claimed.

Millimetre accurate report annotated and detailed within scope of highlighting all key issues identified from joint loss, face loss, spalling, cracks and so forth. The survey tool can also measure and highlight areas where brick, stone or cement may be protruding on a spillway causing water-engineering issues. Other tools within the software can highlight linearity issues; delamination and most importantly highlight changes over time using differential correlation.
At this level, we expect to be demonstrating capability and understanding a tight scope produced by an expert engineer. Once you have seen the application of a reality mesh overlaid onto your asset and combine this with texture layers to highlight defects you achieve far more readily an expert level of understanding, which can be shared within the team and to the key stakeholders. The specification is tighter, the quantities are exact and the potential risk of budget creep is minimised.
The survey model is converted to PDF for mark up by the survey team onsite and then handed to the Supervising Panel Engineer for the technical verification and further input. Upon request we can provide material testing of lime mortars, so that the specialist supplier to meet the needs of the Engineers and the project can produce a match. We have some exciting new development to show how the model is used to produce a scope and how the project is monitored once any work is in production to verify valuations. In production, we have a team of gold card restorers who are expert in mortar, imperial brickwork and stone.
We have a good supply chain for matching mortars, manufacturing / matching imperial bricks and use a skilled heritage stonemason to produce a matched replacement on a gravity wall or spillway. We are also expert in understanding what Invasive species do to the built structure and have detailed knowledge on the lifecycle of Buddleia Davidii that is perhaps the most costly plant based risk once the seeds have germinated!
We have a survey showing 50,000 bricks delaminated by Buddleia and have refined a workflow to remediate the plant and root system.
We also have some specialist monitoring equipment on areas of high risk where sub millimetre movement needs to be recorded. Taking our experience from the heritage sector we now work with Engineers to implement solutions within the water industry. Understanding the routine thermal expansion from an unexpected movement is key to this.
